Were messing up the planet to much and we need a plan b if something happens here. otherwise there would be no one to educate.

Also the government has a terrible job of managing money.

both space and education are important while there are programs that could get cut or decrease but neither education or space should be it.

Spending money on space is just as important to the war effort. All of the missiles and bombs that we drop nowadays are powered by GPS. If it weren’t for our satellite systems and funding for space related programs we would effectively be hampered as a nation.

Also, all of our communications and most modern day advances have come from the space program. Just look at plastics for example. If it weren’t for the space programs of the 1950’s and 1960’s we wouldn’t even have that.

It’s easy to pick on the space program when it comes to funding, but there are numerous other areas of government spending that are just as frivolous.

We’re too busy buying million dollar stryker vehicles and new black hawks to care about soldiers or children. The government treats troops as expendable. (Not a black hawk helicopter though.) Unfortunate but true. Also, what we spend on space exploration is a tiny fraction of what we spend for the defense department. Space exploration is one of the only things we work with other countries so it’s good diplomacy and it is a way of showing our strength with out killing others. The military should stop buying plasma T.V.s for Ft. Lewis to play Fox all day long and instead start buying body armor.

“Hundreds of trillions of dollars”? Evidently you have no idea the size of the federal budget.

Besides that gross exaggeration, NASA and the past space race stimulated spending on education. NASA still invests in educational programs in public schools; I worked with one as a teacher.

Schools would have enough funding if they did not waste it on administrative costs and overspending on athletics. For every run down school in the nation, I bet you would find a plush administrative office and new athletic facilities.

It would be helpful if people actually looked into what is happening in schools, instead of listening to the inane banter of Keith Olbermann.

BTW. Those mine resistant vehicles, like the Buffalo and RG-32, have been in Iraq since at least 2005.

>This “lack of body armor” crap is too much. My battalion had enough IBAs to outfit every member twice! And most of us never left Kuwait!

I was watching a program the other day, and they spoke about how a proposal for funding to NASA was cut in half, they wont be able to make any major or significant mission until past 2014. And the rest, Ditto to Wichitaor1’s comments.

we can do both since they are related just like 500 years ago the queen of Spain spent her crown money on exploring space by giving it to Columbus instead of her children and now we are her decedents,
