Hidden files, like the page-file, the hiberfill.sys file if hibernation is active, the Temp Folders, the internet browser history.

First, go in the explorer and select tools, then folder options. Hook the case (find it) to make hidden files and folder visible.

Now, this done, go in documents and settings on the c drive. find your account name, look in Local Settings folder and open Temp folder. Delete all the **** that is in there. Make a shortcut of this folder to your desktop, so you can delete all in there all time. There is another Temp Folder in C:\windows, Empty him too.
Then in the internet explorer tools, internet options, reduce your history space to a minimum, 50 mb is enough. Hook the radio-button to refresh your page at every visit to the page.
In the display properties, where you select the screen-saver, go to the power page by pressing the power button. Open the hibernate tab and unhook the enable hibernation case. That is almost all you can do to save space on disk. Now, there are other softwares who use larger amount of files that they cache, like Newsreaders (Newsbin Pro), Photoshop, Nikon Capture and other similar Photo rework softwares that are caching thumbnails and rework settings. Most of those are in application data folders, my documents or on a specific location the soft sets up.
So, now start seeking …..

250Gb is theoretical capacity, not actual.
Actual capacity - windows clutter - 70Gb media = 100Gb maybe, the rest could be useless files, pictures, program files.

Go into control panel and go to add/remove programs, then pres the tab at the top so its ordering them in size, and see whats taking up the most space.
