Some training is done on large planes that are diving. This causes a small period of weightlessness. There are real pictures of this.

Referring back to the thing that gives about 30 seconds of weightlessness. The plane is called the vomit comet. Why they float in space? Well the are in freefall but so is the shuttle. The ship goes straight at a constant speed but it is being pulled to earth by the gravitational pull. So its in freefall and so are its passengers. They may seem to be floating but are only falling freely.

PS: The videos are real. I watched one in class. They were really funny. The ladies hair stood straight up because she was in freefall.

The actors are much thinner than they look, but are wearing special suits filled with helium to make them float.

just kidding…

apollo 13 used a diving plane… space odyssey must have used models since the outside space floating sequences aren’t exactly possible in a plane, underwater, or in real space…
